Following the outcome of the elections held during the 13th Congress, which was held in Bangkok, India is expected to take over as president of the Asian Pacific Postal Union.

For a period of four years, Dr. Vinaya Prakash Singh, a former Member (Personnel) of the Postal Services Board, will serve as the Union’s Secretary General.

An intergovernmental group of 32 Asian-Pacific nations make up the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU).
It is the only Restricted Union of the United Nations’ specialised organisation, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), in the area.
Goal: To strengthen collaboration between member nations in the area of postal services and to expand, facilitate, and improve postal links between them.
It also takes the lead in ensuring that all technical and operational UPU projects are completed in the region in its capacity as the regional hub for various UPU initiatives, guaranteeing the best possible integration of the region into the global postal network.
